Margaret Nelson was one of the Clare orphan girls who sailed to Sydney, Australia on the Thomas Arbuthnot in 1850.

Her parents John (William) and M were both dead and she left the Scarriff workhouse at age 16.

She could not read or write and had no relatives in the colony.

She was initially employed as a house servant in North Brisbane.

She married Jessie Wright in 1850.

Her son William Wright was born in 1851  d.1916 and daughter Margaret Ann Wright (Weir) was born in 1854 - d.1927

She married Charles Hagger in 1856.

She married Christopher Lopdell in 1856 and lived in Drayton, Toowoomba, Taroom and Tambo.

Her son Henry Lopdell was born in 1857

Her son Christopher James Lopdell was born 1859

Her daughter Mary Ann was born 1862  d,1862

Her son Richard Lopdell was born 1863

Her daughter Mary Ann was born 1867 d. 1868

Her son Frederick Lopdell was born in 1869

Her daughters Mary Ellen and Catherine were born 1871.

She married John Charles Fitzgerald in 1874

Her daughter Mary Elizabeth was born in 1877

 

She died in 1886 and is buried in Muttaburra.
