Mike McMahon

Mike McMahon - a proud Kilmurray McMahon man was special guest of honour of New York Gaa in February 2002.  He came to New York in 1947 and played a couple of games with St. Jerome's Football team and later senior football with the New York - Kilkenny team.  In 1952, he and other young Clare footballers held a meeting in Kelly's bar where the Gaa held their weekly meetings.  The new Clare club was formed and affiliated into the ranks of New York Gaa Junior Football.

Mike held the record for the longest serving delegate atttending the weekly meetings of the Gaa in the Bronx and smiles as he recalls his shares of wins and defeats.

He is a long time loyal member of the Clare New York Association since 1948 and acted as its historian.

He worked for Western Electric in 1948 and quickly stumbled on a better paying job the following year as a longshoreman.  He retired in 1989 after spending 40 years in the industry.

Mike married Emily Mockler and their children are Ann Patricia, Brian, Emily, Mary, Elizabeth and Michael Junior.
