Mayor of Clare welcomes the Clare community in New York

As Mayor of County Clare, I would like to congratulate everyone involved in bringing this marvellous Gathering initiative to fruition.

My personal links with the Diaspora in the United States means that I am acutely aware of how significant this event is for the County Clare Association in New York and the extended Irish-American community.

I want to warmly congratulate Association President Cathy Hogan and the Association members on their 125th anniversary.

The upcoming Gathering event is the people of County Clare’s way of saluting the Clare Association and its members for their sensitive care of generations of Clare emigrants and their contribution to the wider Clare community in New York down through the years.

I admire their continued loyalty to the Association’s principles that were adopted 125 years ago - to be united in patriotism to our adopted country and loyal to their native homeland.

On behalf of the people of Clare, I look forward to sharing their special Anniversary by welcoming them home this August. I hope that the interesting variety of events that have been planned will appeal to the wider Clare Diaspora.

Finally, I want to acknowledge the many individuals, community groups and organisations across County Clare for the wonderful effort that has been made to develop a wide-ranging and comprehensive programme of events for the Gathering Clare 2013.

Clare is living up to its nickname of The Banner County by leading the way and I look forward to welcoming those who travel to County Clare during the coming months.

Is mise le meas,

Cllr. Pat Daly, Mayor of Clare
